The September Concert is a global day of music for peace. Its goal is to bring people together, reaffirm our hope for peace, and celebrate our universal humanity every year on September 11th, by filling the skies with music. Musicians of every age, genre and background volunteer to give free concerts in parks, schools, churches, coffee shops, senior centers - anywhere music is welcome. What started in New York City as a grassroots effort has steadily grown to be an annual tradition in many parts of the U.S. and beyond. In 2008 there were over 10,000 volunteers and nearly 8000 musicians around the world performing in 250 concerts altogether.
