OVERVIEW
This competition calls for a brand logo for a specialty Japanese food brand called, "Kihoku.” They are introducing their gourmet fish products (frozen dried fish and frozen fish steaks) to the United States for the first time. They would like to create a logo that will speak to a sophisticated culinary audience in the US.
The logo will be used in a multitude of executions: packaging, advertising, and all other marketing collateral materials including leaflet, website, etc.

Brand Statement:
Experience a food enjoyed for centuries that today is essential to one of the healthiest cultures in the world. Naturally preserved - similar to how some cultures sun-dry vegetables or cure meats - and packaged at the peak of taste and freshness, nothing is lost from the mountainous fishing village of Kihoku nudging the seas of the Pacific…now all the way to your table.
Food enthusiasts will love the specialty flavors: Sun Dried Pike, Semi Dried Pike with Mirin (sweet rice wine), Red Bream Steak marinated in Miso (soybean paste) and Teriyaki Tuna Steak. When simply heated, the flavor of the fish emerges and creates a totally different taste experience.
Serving ideas:
Have a sake tasting. Serve sweet, dry, aged and young sake and pair with cocktail portions of the dried fish like they do in Japan.
Cross cultures. Add the fish to Italian pasta dishes, Jambalaya or any recipe.
Perk up your nutrition. Include in any meal (even salads and sandwiches) for a healthful, tasty dose of low-cholesterol, low-fat protein.
About the region of Kihoku:
It is located in the Mie Prefecture in Japan that lies along the eastern coast of Honshu Island. Fishing and tourism are major industries for this picturesque town. Kihoku is also located at the entrance of the historic spiritual pilgrimage path called, Kumano Sanzan that was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. This revered unique peninsular area is surrounded by beautiful nature and is said to be a mystical experience for those who visit.

DESIGN BRIEF
Design the official logo for the brand, "Kihoku." It will be primarily for positioning the product as a gourmet brand in the U.S. market, with the intention to use it also in Japan.
You can design a logo as an icon, or if you prefer, you can design with typography (the word "Kihoku" only) or any combination there of.
The size must be adjustable from very small to large for typical application for placement on a package sized 6 x 8 inches

ENTRY INFORMATION
Ownership of winning logo belongs to Kihoku. The selected logo winner will be the exclusive property of Kihoku.
Kihoku will acquire exclusive ownership of the winning logo including the right of adaptation of their logo. All entrants must be prepared to assign full copyright of their design to Kihoku, in the event their proposed design is selected as the winner.
ENTRY PROVISIONS
Entries are limited image and text files only. Entries that direct users away from the SOCIAL DESIGNER website will be disqualified. See the "How To Enter" Rules for full details on file type, size and number constraints and recommendations.
Up to 6 (six) images at 500x500 pixels square. Rectangular images will be resized. JPG, GIF or PNG. At least one image must be uploaded.

JUDGING CRITERIA
The judging panel will be looking for original, contemporary, graphically appealing designs that deliver positive, uplifting imagery and messages.
