Breath Through your Tee In An Emergency

This T-shirt design shows you how to use a T-shirt in an emergency. The use of this T-shirt is to help assist you in filtering the air around you. So from smoke to air-born germs this T-shirt would help filter the air in which one would breathe in. Results may very and the more layering and the tighter the T-shirt around the head is, the better it would be at filtering the air. I came up with this process from other examples, but wanted to think of a new way to achieve the same result, to make a T-shirt into a mask. I came up with the idea to use the sleeves of the T-shirt to pull over your head knowing that it would be a tight fit. I also didn’t want to have one to have to use a knife or scissors to accomplish making this mask. This is a good technique for when in an emergency where you don’t have time to find scissors or a knife the possibility to craft something to help assist you in to filter the air. I would stress this to only be used as a last resort. I did not come across this technique online however, I noticed some masked that required scissors and a lengthy process to creating a mask. I used these as inspiration to construct a technique so that the same effect could be achieved with out a need for any additional materials, tools, or developed technique. Well you could ask, “How is this different from just tying your T-shirt around your head?” Well, what I found was that the sleeves created a very tight fit and by layering them (technique explained below) that it would be more efficient.

Here is the technique explained:

First assuming you have the T-shirt on you take you arms out of the shirt so its sits on your shoulders, but still with your head through the neck hole. You then pull your head through the first sleeve in the shirt so that it reaches just below the eyes. It makes a tight fit. Next you take the other sleeve and stick your head through that sleeve. So now you have two layers (the two sleeves around your face). Next you fold up the extra (at least in half) and wrap pull it across your face (creating another two layers on top of the two sleeve layers you recently created. Now pull it tight so that you can tie it to the side you wrap the shirt across your face.

The Goal: To use your t-shirt to help assist you in filtering the air around you.

Example 1: Smoke or Fires Someone caught in a fire and has to act fast, but does not have
a mask (if dampened could help achieve better results)
Example 2: A construction worker using an electric saw and does not want to inhale the
sawdust.
Example 3: A painter who does not have a mask can use this technique temporarily.

This would need some fine tuning, but gets the idea across. Things like explaining the technique can be either explained under each diagram or even on the back of the shirt.
