Seeds for the World by Gail Pepin
for What Next? A product design competition

My proposal for a new product is packets of fruit and vegetable seeds. Each month a certain number (maybe 5) of colorful seed packets will arrive. One can either plant them outside in a garden, or plant an inside garden for seedlings to transplant later. There's one stipulation: if the person doesn't want to plant them, they must pass them on to someone who will. This can be anywhere in the world, since the southern hemisphere has opposite seasons from the northern hemisphere.

The whole purpose is to get people involved in growing their own food, without chemicals. By passing the seeds on, one can spread the process of growing good food. You could also add flower seeds to this idea.

The packaging would be colorful art depicting each plant. Also, the packaging would be inexpensive to produce and print. A reputable seed company would have to be picked for this project.

In summary, I feel this would be an innovative product idea for the subscription concept. It would be good for the recipient, good for the environment, and ultimately good for the world.
